Tonight's Show

Tonight's game (click here for more details) is a brouhaha between two old-timers, Henry Bird (after whom Bird's Opening (1.f4) and Bird's Defense in the Ruy Lopez (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 Nd4) is named) and Bernhard Horwitz. At the time this game was played in 1851, Horwitz was definitely the better player, but Bird's attack finally prevailed when Horwitz rejected a draw in the hope of cashing in his material advantage. It's not a well-played game, but it is exciting and worth an hour of your time if you're a chess fan!

ChessBase Shows

I do a live show every Monday night at 9 p.m. Eastern Time on ChessBase's Playchess.com server. Unfortunately, there's no one single page on the ChessBase news site (www.chessbase.com) that provides information on the show for newbies and visitors alike.

Therefore, over the next few weeks I hope to rectify that problem on here, by providing information on how to access both live and archive shows, offering show blurbs in advance of ChessBase's posting, offering a list of past games and resources for further study. This will take time, so please be patient, but I think this will improve everyone's overall enjoyment of the show.
